Change the row indexes of the DataFrame:

import pandas as pd

data = {
"age": [50, 40, 30, 40],
"qualified": [True, False, False, False]
}
idx = ["Sally", "Mary", "John", "Monica"]
df = pd.DataFrame(data, index=idx)

newidx = ["Robert", "Cindy", "Chloe", "Pete"]
newdf = df.reindex(newidx)

Definition and Usage

The reindex() method allows you to change the row indexes, and the columns labels.

Note: The values are set to NaN if the new index is not the same as the old.

Syntax

dataframe.reindex(keys, method, copy, level, fill_value, limit, tolerance)

Parameters

The method, copy, level, fill_value, limit, tolerance parameters are keyword arguments.

Parameter	Value	Description
keys		Required. String or list containing row indexes or column labels
method	`None 'backfill' 'bfill' 'pad' 'ffill' 'nearest'`	Optional, default None. Specifies the method to use when filling holes in the indexes. For increasing/decreasing indexes only.
copy	`True False`	Optional, default True. Whether to return a new object (a copy) when all the new indexes are the same as the old
level	Number Label	Optional
fill_value	List of values	Optional, default NaN. Specifies the value to use for missing values
limit	Number	Optional, default None.
tolerance		Optional
